Lowkey regret leaving surgical residency for ER

Man some days I feel bad for leaving surgery residency for biotech ER. Used to feel important learning the art of surgery. Now I’m just putting numbers in excel and editing PowerPoints.

Anyone have a similar experience? Does it get better?

Sounds like grass is greener syndrome, and like you enjoy having to work on the weekends. Hope you figure things out.

Wanting to go to buyside is fairly normal. But I also think you need time to adjust (unless you’ve been in your role >6 months). A big thing is culture and maybe your team/Analyst is weird idk? People discount how important it is to have a solid working relationship with team. To me, this is more important than bank brand. So if you think your teams weird, shop around.

I have a ton of buyside contacts in healthcare. They make it pretty clear whose research they like. And it’s not the big banks. Look at smaller guys if you’re at a big bank like Leerink, Cowen, and LifeSci
