Analysts & Crying

Hi all, I've noticed that many of us analysts get yelled at by our MDs, but only the girls seem to have an allowance to cry. This practice feels rather discriminatory, as I too want to cry, however, society deems this behavior unacceptable for men. Please advise.

Sincerely,

Disgruntled

On some J Cole shit, crying happens and it's important to hug your bros when it does. In my banking days we would all love up on each other extra during tough nights but those were the days you had a lot of prime breeding age target men in one room with a lot on the line. Now a days with so many non targets and diversity hires "in" the bullpen things are a lot more low stakes.

Wank x5 and pretend your Mathew Mcconaughey. You'll be fine.

In all seriousness just go bathroom and cry where no one sees you and then get some professional help from a therapist if this is a continuous thing.

Feel like guy's need a outlet for releasing their negative emotions and frustrations. Everyone is different and to each their own. Just don't let shit bottle up.

Girls are often good at just releasing their emotional load to their support networks like friends etc. Some guys aren't like that and that's ok. Just find what works for you if you actually feel like you need to cry.

Best of luck brother

As a girl who cries a lot, I don’t do it because I allow myself to, I do it because I physically can’t hold the tears back (haven’t cried in office yet tho)

I don’t think anyone ever wants to cry in public because it causes people to take you less seriously and it’s very embarassing. That goes for girls too. People don’t give you extra sympathy when you cry, they just think youre being dramatic or trying to emotionally manipulate them.

I would probably be laughing in my head bc gen z doesn't take boomer bs anymore and I think they are realizing the changing trends in the space lol.

It’s okay to cry as our brain has hard time handling pressure after multiple weeks of 100 hours juggling different projects and then your MD/VP gives you a snarky comment on your work product.

if you are going to cry go somewhere (bathroom, staircase, outside) where it is at least distanced from the direct colleagues. Finance is still traditional and it is not a good look to cry (though sometime they berate you until you actually do, which is honestly fucked up)

The only time it’s fine to cry at work is when someone is yelling at you and causes you to cry in front of everyone else. Those people will get in trouble and will lose the respect of others.

Otherwise don’t cry at work. If you do, the bullpen will lose respect for you and no one will ever forget it. Other analysts will pity you and see you as unstable and insecure. You don’t want people talking about you behind your back.
