Desjardins lol
Apparently desjardins took a bunch of interviews for their "junior investment banking analyst" role, made many candidates go through the technical test (over a span of a month), and kept making "Junior" candidates wait , saying they were waiting on seniors to come back from vacaayyy to make a decision, which was a lie. In reality, they were just buying some time to interview more candidates, if not the entire candidate pool that currently is jobless, then ended up hiring a senior analyst. It does look like they have nothing better to do than proctoring candidates on a live case study lol
I know they hired one analyst in the first leg of their interview stage for their mining team. Anyone know if they hired a second analyst? They were supposed to be hiring 2 (maybe 3) with this whole process
Im talking about the process they started in february for the “Junior analyst” role.
Who told you they hired a senior analyst?
Fuck desjardins, such a chickenshit process
Canadian IB 101
They seem to have several MDs with only a handful of analysts / associates, red flag to me personally...
Recruiters gotta find time to kill don’t they. As useless as they are lol
Leaf man, another swing and a miss
You miss 100 % of the shots you do not partake in
Lately I’ve had many conversations with MDs, recruiters, and fellow analysts that are recruiting. A lot of banks are running processes that take forever, and then putting them on hold, or hiring an entirely different position.
Think there are a few drivers (this is what I’ve heard):
A lot of summer analysts that didn’t get returns end up interviewing for full-time roles and aren’t that impressive. Think this year will weed out a lot of the kids that just got in because of a target school or other checked boxes.
The candidate pool is way over crowded and supply & demand for analyst roles is worse than it’s been in 15 years.
Boutiques and MMs are realizing they have the opportunity to hire BB and EB AN1,AN2, or AN3s that need jobs. So if your choice is between an experienced analyst and a fresh college graduate, it makes sense to take the experienced candidate. I hate that this is the case because it’s made recruiting hard for me and all of my peers, but it’s probably true.
The market and deal flow is still extremely emotional right now. If a process takes 2 months, that’s a lot of time for deals to go on pause, bad economic data to come out, or budgets to be changed around.
It truly sucks right now. Hope this helps in some way.
Best of luck and cheers!
On the same boat. What do you think of US IB though for new grads who didnt get return offers?
US IB is hiring here and there - positions are not always posted. You gotta be persistent with networking. I gave interviews for a couple BB and EB spots that weren't posted, just visa issue ruined it at the end.
Canadian IB recruiting is just for show and compliance.
Dejardins is French for co-manager.
No it isn't? "Jardins" means "gardens", with "des" indicating uncountable plural.
Woosh
This is hilarious haha. All of that to compete for Montreal scraps against the Big Four M&A teams. I have heard from both, and at that point, anybody is better off at a Big Four.
The fact that there’s a post on this is very bad. Very bad look for them. The street is small and word is spreading fast.
it's good - transparency is a positive in every sense. No need for their shit when they led people along for weeks
