While being in deal origination & sales => how to get Investment Banks to partner for advisory, structuring & deal finance?
Guys.
I'm turning 40 next year.
I'm based in London, UK.
For 10 years - I've been a Project Manager in the industry: medium & large corporates, on the technical projects up to $10 Mil a piece.
Prince2 Practitioner.
Masters of Engineering.
Worked all over Europe.
Speak 5 languages. 3 of them fluently.
I code in Python, especially AI & data.
I'm tech savvy, up to date with tech.
Personally - people describe me as the most black&white guy they know... ENTJ in Myerr-Briggs.
Then the last 5 years - I tried on my own & worked in Project Finance & M&A: originating deals, closing them & then project managing the transaction => basically front-office:
=> I recruited 2 people in India & Nigeria
=> we brought 3 deals to a UK FCA-registered 30-people IB.
1. $50 Mil Project Finance deal in the Oil & Gas tech in the MidWest US
2. $20 Mil Project Finance deal in Resi Property Development in India / Mumbai area
3. £100 Mil M&A deal by £200M+ UK business to acquire a £100M WTE plant in the UK
(generally: £20-£100 Mil M&A & Project Finance, EMEA (including Africa but nothing closed yet), US & Asia; sold some retainer + success fee on each of these listed deals, shared between us & our partner; sometimes also get some RE & VC deals on the desk but usually pass these to the network without much engagement on our side)
As having a single partner does not bring needed flexibility (with their limitations regarding ticket, industries, geos, previous deals record & investor relations) => I am looking to expand and work with other IBs, as well as perhaps PE, Family Offices, HF who see fit with types of deals we work on.
The challenge is being a 3-people organisation with yet a limited track record (3 deals listed above) => it is not taken seriously by most people we speak with, independently of how Professionally we'd approach the business.
What is your best advice to get more partners to help advise clients, develop, structure & finance deals => while we focus on bringing deals, closing them & project management ("chasing") elements throughout the transaction?
