Why is everyone so angry at BOFA and not Gary Howe?

I’m just saying you guys know Gary Howe’s name. You know bofa’s email format. Why are you spreading the message here where he’s not gonna see it? There are other ways to go about this given the information you have.

I want to send him hate mail from my work email, but knowing him, he forwards it to my group head and there are friends

I 100% agree with this. Every bank is different, every industry within that bank is different, and every vertical within that industry is different. They all have their own distinctive culture.

The FIG banks group at BofA is known for having a toxic and disrespectful culture, led by the group head. This happened under his watch. I heard he was fired/pushed out from his prior employer for fostering a toxic work environment. People should be looking at this as an isolated, targeted event directed at that particular deal team. Not at BofA as a whole.

IMO working 100 hour weeks on live deals once in a while is part of the job, unfortunately. But the group I work in i) actively monitors hours and staffing issues and ii) gives someone a day / half day off when they’re clearly getting crushed. That could have made all the difference in this situation. Management on this particular deal is full of tools with no empathy or respect for others.

you know how much fees he brought in a year And the avg deal size? Part of it is also that having 30 small deals compared to one big one for 5 weeks, means you just don’t have time to take the foot off the gas pedal and end up harming your health

I'd very careful about not parroting that BAML are the worst thing since Hitler. The WSO community will MS you.

The institution may not be the cause (vs Gary) but they haven't taken responsibility or enacted any reprimands. I can understand why they haven't (admitting guilt leaves you open to being sued).

Well let’s see with this one. I am an active well respected member of this community (I have had convos with Pat and respect him as a person) so let’s see what happens with this post. If they take it down there is clearly a vendetta to protect Bofa.

LowCaliberTalent, is that you?

100%. Everyone knows Gary Howe is responsible for creating a toxic work environment, pushing MDs to go after every scrap of a deal and crushing juniors with work, which sadly led to this unfortunate loss. He doesn’t care who is around as long as revenue is being generated. He only promotes brown nosers and pushes good people to leave. FIG at BofA is long overdue for a leadership change. It is only time until this happens again unless drastic change in direction

It should definitely be more about the individuals responsible.  Directing frustration at the firm level or industry level isn't as likely to lead to solutions.  All it does is disperse accountability away from the individuals who should feel their neck on the line when they make decisions like how to better manage staffing, when to tell a person to catch up on sleep, etc.
