Advice (Masters, companies, etc) regarding getting into IB from a non-target in latam.
Hey, first time posting here.
Alright, I'm a last year undergraduate student of economics from Colombia trying to make it into high finance, and I would like to receive some advice regarding opportunities, education and companies. To give you some background I come from (obviously) a non target university that is quite renowed in my country, thanks to a full ride scholarship, where I've achieved a 3.36 GPA, and I'm currently on Germany doing a brief internship as a research assistant for a professor.
Now, I know that getting into high finance may sound too crazy given what I've told you, but I like to go against the odds, after all that's how I got my scholarship and my internship in Germany. I love numbers and I plan to do a Master's in either Quantitative Finance or Actuarial Science, hopefully in a school like University of Amsterdam, St. Gallen, ETH Zurich or London School of Economics. Could you please tell me good programs that firms value more for their positions?
Hey there, fellow finance enthusiast! It's great to see your determination and ambition. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some master programs that are highly valued in the finance industry, particularly for S&T/Quant positions:
United Kingdom:
France:
Switzerland:
Italy:
Germany:
Netherlands:
These programs are well-regarded and could potentially boost your chances of breaking into high finance. Remember, it's not just about the program, but also about networking and gaining relevant experience. So, keep up the good work and continue to challenge the odds!

If you want to work in high finance (HF, Quant desk, etc) in Europe, I would go for a UK Masters in a top institution:
- Imperial MSc Finance or RMFE
- LSE MSc Financial Mathematics
- UCL MSc Financial Mathematics
Appreciate your input and I´ll look more into that, but, out of curiosity, St Gallen or ETH Zurich are not as prestigious/renowned in high finance?
good for Switzerland, meh for UK. meanwhile UK MSc are good both for UK and Switzerland
so if you'll go for one, better go for the one that opens more options and may make it easier to recruit for London (London > Zurich for finance)
Yeah that’s the thing, London loves London
