Bachelors at LSE or Imperial for IB?

I've been fortunate enough to be offered places for 2024 Entry for LSE BSc Finance and Imperial BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science but am struggling to be able to pick between the two.

For me the balance is greater course/university prestige for LSE and a "better" alumni network, but I find the course slightly more interesting at Imperial. I also would appreciate any advice on how people who went to either university/did LSE Finance (Imperials EFDS is a brand new course - I'd be the second cohort) found the experience/culture.

Thank you in advance for the help.

At lse. Look at the BSc finance program structure, you will likely be able to take some outside options. You can use your outside options to study data science modules. BSc Finance has a decent number of econ module requirements anyway, so it's not like you won't be studying econ. The culture is fierce, but that also means it's motivating and will push you to up your bar. Of all the assessment centres I've done I've seen tons of fellow LSE students, but not that many from imperial. You can literally get quant interviews as a social policy student at lse. I wouldn't choose imperial over LSE, but if you really like the content and want to keep a STEM door open then consider it

Thank you. I had a conversation with a Finance First Year last week and the LSE Spring Week Culture was definitely a huge selling point for me, so that's the way I have been leaning.

The more quantitative side of the Imperial course was appealing, but if I want to get into Quant I'll be doing an MFE anyway, and I think both courses will put me in an equally good position for that.

Haha yes. Don't forget to apply to springs before you set foot on campus! LOL. Biggest mistake I made was not focussing on the most convertible springs. I got 2 top springs that didn't convert. Focus on the laz/roths/ms springs.

If you are considering an MFE (i am, i study econ + a social science), you need to be careful that you meet the prereqs (almost all require linear algebra and higher level math courses, which may not be part of your Finance degree). The LSE brand will help though and I know people who have got into top mfe programs (Princeton, Columbia, MIT for MFin) out of LSE with an econ degree.

Good luck! Feel free to pm if you need any help as you make the choice :)

Would take Imperial EFDS, much more selective and better university overall.

The truth is more people get into IB from LSE simply because there are more applicants. But every Imperial student who wants to can easily get into.

Take this forum with a grain of salt, it is full of LSE kids

Congrats on imperial..

Jokes aside though, Imperial would be great if OP wanted to pursue a hard STEM subject. But there's no way you would take imperial over LSE for Econ and Finance. LSE is ranked 6th for finance and 7th for econ in the world. Not that rankings matter a lot but I don't see imperial in the top 10.
