Importance of mandarin or Cantonese for IB in Hong Kong? Any thoughts?

It is a huge disadvantage to be an international student not speaking any Chinese languages to break into HK IBD? Does it make networking even more important? Networking though becomes harder without knowing the languages as well. Thanks!
