Re-engaging with specific headhunters
Hi all,
Have been engaging with headhunters for PE roles (particularly interested in growth equity and LMM) over the past two months, and have had productive conversations/built relationships with many firms (Amity, HSP, SG, etc.) but have yet to hear back from Ratio and CPI -- which is unfortunate as their client lists are arguably more suited to my interests. Has anyone had the experience of not hearing back from particular headhunters and found a way to engage? Or would it make more sense to just assume they're not interested in working with me. Thanks!
Hey there!
It's not uncommon to find yourself in a situation where some headhunters haven't gotten back to you, especially when you're targeting specific niches like growth equity and lower middle market (LMM) firms. Here's a bunch of bananas for thought:
Persistence is Key: Don't assume they're not interested. They might be swamped with candidates or your profile might not have caught their eye initially. A polite follow-up email can remind them of your interest and qualifications.
Tailor Your Approach: When you follow up, make sure to highlight why you're particularly interested in the sectors they cater to and how your experience aligns with their client list. This shows you've done your homework and aren't just blasting out generic emails.
Leverage Relationships: Since you've built relationships with other firms, don't hesitate to ask if they can provide an introduction to Ratio and CPI. A referral can go a long way.
Stay Active: Continue to network and engage with professionals in your target sectors. Sometimes, a recommendation from an industry contact can prompt a headhunter to take a second look.
Be Professional: If you do reach out again, keep it professional. Acknowledge their busy schedules and express your continued interest in a concise manner.
Expand Your Horizon: While you wait for a response, keep the door open to opportunities with other firms. The right fit might come from where you least expect it.
Remember, the headhunting world is bustling and sometimes it's just about timing. Keep swinging through the networking vines, and you'll likely find the right branch to grab onto. Good luck!
