Boys Who Invest

Hey WSO

Looking to start an organization called Boys Who Invest (BWI), which will be a a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the investment management industry by attracting and advancing male investors, change-makers, and leaders.
I think this would be a fantastic method to give men in today's environment an unrivaled and advantageous opportunity at the best internship and educational chances. Drop a comment if you're interested in starting it with me.

Bois Who Invest

If you're going to be in finance you need to brush up on your gay slang.  It's "Twinks who Invest"

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Make it "straight white / Asian males who invest"

Since the dawn of college, I've always been questioning why there exists no such program like J.P. Morgan Winning Men. After countless losses and neverending frustration, I've realized that my lack of top offer (think GS/MS/Santander) is 100% attributable to prejudiced hiring practices (definitely not due to my severe retardation).

I think you capture all our unspoken frustrations perfectly and with the creation of BWI, we'd establish a more even playing field. Too long have we served as the cannon fodder for hiring practices from decades long gone, too long have we borne the repercussions of hiring practices from the days of Drexel Burnham.

To all those proponents of 'Equalization of Opportunity', I say to you this. We shall no longer suffer the consequences extenuating from unjust social dynamics decades before our conception. If you blame society for the discrimination you've faced, do not look to society for a helping hand. Bring yourself out of misery by accord of your own ability, not by the very system that positioned you at such a spot in the first place. When companies start handing out jobs based on need not ability, it brings forth a game of victimization calls into question the morality of need--who needs a 2025 offer more, a middle school dropout from South Dakota or the daughters of European oligarchs?

And to all those who will MS me, i say to you this: Middle Finger.

Would love to join something like this for operators / entrepreneurs.

Lmao my firm was making modest progress towards adding more females to the investment team which completely reversed course in the past few years as those females left. I think we used to be 20-25% female investment staff, now we're around 15%. Even though our intern classes are more even, the ones who get offers just tend to be guys

Not to be that guy, but it is true that diversity and female students have an easier time due to HR giving them more opportunities to acquire an interview and get pushed through. This isn’t to say that banks and schools should be forced to stop these processes, but I think it’s silly when people don’t want to acknowledge that these candidates do have a systematic advantage over other candidates due to physical features (gender/race). Yes, if you can’t get an offer anywhere, it’s probably your own fault and you suck at the whole process from resume to interview. But it can be the reason someone doesn’t get a better offer. It’s sometimes what separates someone with a mid-tier BB offer from getting an EB or someone with a BB getting a MF. But again, it’s no excuse to blame diversity for your own shortcomings. Also GWI is a silly program that gives chubby VPs an excuse to flirt with girls who are 10 years younger than them.

When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.
