Finance Related Books

Hey, I’m looking for Finance Related Books to read. Im a first year analyst in a Asset Management firm. I want to know a little bit better the mechanic of the industry (not specifically AM but also IB, PE, etc). Im looking for technical books and non technical books. For now, I have the following list:

  • The Alchemy of Finance
  • Liar’s poker
  • Barbarians at the Gates
  • The Masters of Private Equity and Venture Capital
  • The Caesars Palace Coup: how a billionaire brawl over the casino o exposed the power and greed of wall street

What would you add to the list? And also, what would you choose as your first book?

If you are starting out in AM, I'd like to suggest two books: 1) 'Capital Returns' by Edward Chancellor, and 2) 'The Credit Investor's Handbook' by Michael Gatto at Silver Point. The first helps you understand the capital cycle of businesses and how to make investments, while the second provides a straightforward and helpful overview of the leveraged credit space.

Most Helpful

Read way too many books on investing but it is helpful to see different ways of thinking about stocks and also seeing different ways to evaluate businesses etc.

This one is essential for starting analysts:

Best Practices for Equity Research Analysts : Essentials for Buy-Side and Sell-Side Analysts (Books)

Some basic books everyone recommends:

One Up on Wall Street - Peter Lynch

You Can Be a Stock Market Genius - Joel Greenblatt

The Intelligent Investor - Ben Graham

Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits - Phil Fisher

Some of my faves that are less common:

Dhando Investor - Monish Pabrai

Education of a Value Investor - Guy Spier

Dead Companies Walking - Scott Fearon

The Art of Value Investing - Whitney Tilson - lot's of quotes from smart investors in here which is insightful
