SMU Finance vs UT Economics (liberal arts)
Which of these two options would place better in Houston? An Economics degree from UT (which is in the school of liberal arts), or a degree in Finance from SMU?

SMU by far. For better or worse, Houston banks will only recruit business students and generally won't even interview econ / other liberal arts majors at UT. Rice is the only exception because they don't have a business program.
That being said, I think it's fairly easy to transfer into the business school at UT if you have good grades your freshman year. At that point it's kind of a wash as to where you'd get better Houston opportunities
Check out the alternative Asset Management program's placement. It looks excellent. Also is the cost the same? In-state tuition at UT would make it worth it in my opinion.
