Top rank Christmas Films

'Tis the season, so I figured we should run our own committee for top ranked Chrismas films to enjoy this month.

It's just about spot-on with a single addition that I believe needs to be added: the just released "Violent Night". Die Hard meets John Wick. But speaking of Wick, Leguizamo is the bad guy this time instead and he nails the part. The Christmas banter and puns are non-stop from the very first scene (the codenames the henchmen use is hilarious) and give the all-time classic of Die Hard a strong run for the crown. We all know about Thor and his hammer. But Santa and his sledge? Oh buddy...

Now that I'm done reviewing a new release, I present the current running list of top Christmas films and welcome y'all's feedback.

  1. Die Hard
  2. Violent Night*
  3. Christmas Vacation
  4. Bad Santa
  5. Jingle All The Way
  6. Muppet Christmas Carol
  7. Die Hard 2
  8. Elf
  9. Rocky 4
  10. The Santa Clause
  11. It’s a Wonderful Life
  12. Home Alone 2
  13. Scrooged
  14. Fatman
  15. A Christmas Story

Yeah but it’s so legendary because it’s a movie we all saw as kids and can relate to. Obviously judging it as a grown man in 2022 vs a as a 12 year old is different haha

Ok. Just saw they're releasing a new horror version of the Grinch. Hear me out, but Santa from Violent Night vs this Grinch in a crossover? Could be the best worst Christmas crossover of all time if you asked me.

How do I give you enough monkey shit for not having Trading Places on this list.

PORK BELLIES!

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Didn't even think of that movie and will have to reproach the committee about it's inclusion. I hereby move to replace Muppet Christmas Carol, Elf, Rocky 4 or Scrooged with Trading Places. Anyone second the motion?

And don't short sell the movie on pork bellies when FCOJ is the real hero of the story!

Be nice or I won't be able to get my kid the GI Joe with the Kung-Fu grip.

Miracle on 34th Street

Home Alone (cmon now; have 2 and not 1)

The list includes Home Alone 2 instead of 1? HA2 is definitely an actual Christmas movie vs the first that is a caper that just takes place during Christmas.

Culkin had his profile set as "third most likely person to be president from Home Alone 2" for the longest time (personally, I'm voting for that sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania Tim Curry)

I saw violent night bc my cousin wanted to go and I promised I’d see a movie three months ago lol. Not bad, but I do think it was kinda cheesy. If you have nothing better to do then it’s fine, but I wouldn’t give it more than a 3/5.

You’re on point with this list, but a few slipped through the cracks.

  1. Fred Claus. Consultant meets Christmas. Modern day Scrooge with Vince Vaughn and Stephen Baldwin to boot.
  1. Enemy of the State. Crazy how the technology in that movie looks like an Atari now. Imagine what The Man has on us now.
  1. Jingle All The Way +1. Back when filming in MN was a thing due to the Mighty Ducks. Phil Hartman (rip) kills it.
  1. Christmas Chronicles. This Netflix movie does a great job with Santa in the present moment. My nephews/nieces love the movie, and even I tear up watching it.
  1. Noelle. Same as above, but on Disney. There is a deaf actor casted in the movie which brought about a great appreciation from that community.
  1. Muppets Christmas +1.
  1. The Star.
  1. New and old Grinch.
  1. Rudolph.

I can't believe I forgot Fred Claus, that's the last piece of the triumvirate for me.

Thanks for the list.

I'd definitely recommend you all to watch the animated movie "Klaus". It's going to be a Classic. It'd definitely bring you Merry, and spread a Christmassy Smile : )

Elf and Home Alone 2 not being in the top 3 makes this list objectively wrong from where I'm sitting.

Gonna have to continue with my newfound staple of agree to disagree here. Elf moving up to say #5 instead of Jingle All the Way I can grant some leeway with. However, while Home Alone 2 does belong on the list, it deserves to stay below in the #10-15 space.

-  Agree Trading Places should be on the list

- Elf, I agree, horrible Christmas movie. Guy just get made fun of for the movie, then they find out he's correct, and it ends.

-  I always thought the Santa Clause was for kids, and the Santa Clause 2 was more for adults. In 2 he has to go to awkward holiday parties and try to make them fun.

- Four Christmas is also good.

- Low key Christmas movies that are good: Jingle all the Way 2 and Christmas Everyday (its on Youtube, basically groundhog day with Christmas and a kid).

Never saw Die Hard. Am I missing out?

Don’t forget It’s a Wonderful Life.

Never saw Die Hard. Am I missing out?

Like I mentioned in another thread, the Nakatomi Corp Christmas party was the best party. Everyone should watch the documentary on it called Die Hard. Don't want you to miss out.

'Die Hard is a Christmas movie' could be its own personality trait, and it aint a good one.

Your list looks good if you're 22. Other than that, trash.

1st place: Christmas Vacation. Top tier. Wholesome. Funny. Nostalgic. Loved by multiple generations. Cheesy in a good way. Quotable. A classic.

Tie for 2nd: Elf and Rudolf. They're each undisputed generation-defining Christmas movies. Elf is not always my first choice, but it almost always pleases a crowd.

Honorable mentions: Love Actually, A Christmas Story, Home Alone (which one comes down to preference), A Charlie Brown Christmas, A Christmas Carol, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and Trading Places.

American Psycho? Die Hard? Get out of here. You mean to tell me that when you sit down with your family over the holidays and somebody asks for movie suggestions you chime in with American Psycho? You might as well follow that up with Eyes Wide Shut.

Shitty as it was, the Harold and kumar Christmas movie always cracks me up. Yes I know it sucked but there are some great moments in it haha. I always find myself watching some of the great 2000s comedies around Christmas like H&K White Castle/gitmo, the hangover 1/2, Superbad, the jump st series etc.
