Profile Evaluation for Vanderbilt MSF
Hey guys,
I am planning to apply for Vanderbilt's MSF and I would like to know my chances. I would appreciate the help.
Here are some details about my profile:
Undergrad: 9.52/10 CGPA after B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from a tier-3 state university in India. I graduated with a CGPA of 9.52/10, which put me in the top 2% of my university. I also received two scholarships for my academic performance.
Work experience: 9 months as an Operations Analyst at FAANG
GRE: 324 (165Q and 159V)
IETLS: 8.0
Career goals: Investment Banking
If there are any other courses out there with a good ROI, please let me know.
Hey there!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, your profile seems quite strong for Vanderbilt's MSF program. Your high CGPA and work experience at a FAANG company are definitely impressive. Your GRE score is also competitive.
As for your career goals in Investment Banking, Vanderbilt has a strong reputation for placements, so it could be a good fit for you.
However, remember that the application process is holistic and will consider other factors such as your essays, recommendations, and interview performance. So, make sure to put your best foot forward in all aspects of your application.
As for other programs, you might want to consider MIT, UVA, UT Austin, and Duke, which are often mentioned in the WSO threads. These programs also have strong reputations and could help you reach your career goals in Investment Banking.
Remember, this is just a monkey's opinion. You should reach out to the admissions teams of these programs to get a more personalized assessment. Good luck!

With your academic prowess , why not try doing CAT and Try for IIM A/B/C? They have excellent placement in Investment Banking. Vanderbilt usually places into MM IB shops which can make it difficult to get visa sponsorship (incase you dont have US Citizenship)
Thanks for the comment. I know I stand a good chance for the prestigious IIMs. But I'm not planning to stay in India. So, a major part of the reason for pursuing MSF was to get out. Even after OPT, I plan to settle abroad by leveraging US work experience.
Why not apply for top mba programs in 2-3 years and then settle , it is much better by ROI and by Immigration/visa purpose
I kinda agree with this.
Consider you don't land well at Vandy MSF (or others). For whatever reason, you don't land in IB, dont get visa sponsorship etc, you are royally fucked with not much to stand on. MBA gives you a longer runway, with more options.
Even if you keep grinding at FAANG and try to get transferred to the states.
