What do you Drive and What's your Dream Car?
Ladies and Gentlemen, I know a whole lot of you are in NYC or cities where vehicle ownership doesn't make sense, but if somehow you do or for others in places where you have to own a car to get around...
-
What is your current ride and why?
-
What's your dream car(s)?
I've got a few ponies in the stables including an 08 STI and soon a 02 911.
Dream car for me is a NSX type R and a old Formula One car that requires some serious balls to drive like the 1200hp+ turbo days when you had to rely on mechanical grip.
Discussions here can be about your previous rides and why you ditched them and plans for future procurements of other stallions.
update: Included pics of my rides. :)
My 2008 STI:
2015 VW Golf and 2002 Porsche 911:
2002 911:
Dream (Honda NSX Type R):
Current: Dodge Challenger Hemi Next: Challenger Hellcat or Maserati GT (lightly used) Dream: Armored Maybach
depending on where in the ME, you may need an armored car
The Hellcats are BEASTTTTT, that growling grumble alone makes it sound like the car consumes 20 lbs. of raw meat a day on top of the gas.
Borla exhaust bro. Skip all the branded mufflers and catbacks.
Get a muffler shop to chop out Cat and replace it with hiflo then chop muffler with Borla XS. Boom.
Original Maybach or new MB S Maybach?
Matrick what do you think about the Hyundai Genesis? They are obviously targeting the Maybach with their design. Is the Hyundai really that good?
HP/Torque is quite respectable.
Fuck yeah on the amored Maybach! Would you also have ports to grant you the ability to return fire?
I think a CROW system with a 240B that pops out of the trunk would suffice. However, that requires a very large trunk and some paperwork. Naturally, have a former CAG operator driving, a CIF operator riding in the passenger seat, an MP5 in my briefcase and a FNH 57 concealed under my jacket.
Time to get back to shitting in the other hand.
I see you put a lot of thought into this. Not sure if impressed or concerned
I took a ride in my buddy's Challenger Hellcat and it feels like you're launching at instantaneous warp speed. New automatic gearbox shifts like an F1 so there's virtually no bog in between shifts. Almost feels like a single gear. We were pulling on 600cc bikes and keeping up with the new z06s on the highway.
-Also have a red 1990 Honda CRX Si that I've slowly put back together and hope to swap a K series motor into some day soon. Over 400k miles on it and still starts on the first crank with the original d16.
Had a 88 E30 325i
Built a 1988 banana yellow rex back in high school. We threw a GSR engine in and strapped a cummins turbo on it from a diesel Dodge Ram. Crazy stupid lag but once the boost kicked in it was insane. Pushing 400 whp in an 1800lb tin can was a lot of fun.
Current: 2015 Passat Wolfsburg Edition Old: 2001 Integra GS-R Want: Audi S6
Had the Integra as well. Jetta TDI made me forget about VTEC real quick.
Go right for the RS6, more fun overall
If the US had the current version of the RS6, I would We have the RS7, but I'm not 100% on the styling of those cars. I wish Audi would send the RS6 Avant over here.
Current: BMW M6 Next: MB AMG GTC Dream: Lambo Aventador SuperVeloce Roadster
How has the M6 been for you? My uncle has a 6 series and loves it!
I really like it. Arguably one of the best mass production sports cars ever built.
I drive an Audi s4... Dream car would probably be a Porsche 911 GT3 RS
911R
What car I drive: my dad's ute when he isn't using it
Dream car: Aston Martin DBS
James Bond style? Nice
you know it my man
Current: E36 328iS, and a naked Suzuki SV650. Dream: Porsche 917 or Pagani Zonda R
EDIT: Sold the Suzuki. Bought a Ducati 848 Evo.
Not sure how much you're into Pagani but there's actually a great seat documentary about super sports cars in which Pagani gets quite a lot of coverage
...it's called APEX: Story of the HyperCar
Netflix?
Current: Honda Accord (2012) Dream: Honda Odyssey (2017/18)
You work at UBS?
+1
Take it god damn it. All these bananas
you're on a roll bro, I just pissed my pants reading this
I'm fucking dead.
I don't really care about the car that much.
I would buy/upgrade million different things before spending money on a car.
What are you into then? Im getting back into computers a bit. Just added a Raspberry Pi 3 and Pi Hole on it to do DNS server ad blocking.
Next up is dnscrypt and Privoxy to wrap up the setup.
Like what?
Maybe he is a Harley guy.
Dream: 1990 convertible Mazda Miata. Nothing says "chick magnet" more than pop up lights.
NA baby! The NF isn't bad. I test drove it and liked it a lot.
Look into the MSMs. Fire in the factory made this line an exclusive lot. Lots of mods because it is MX5 but not very safe without a top and padded bars for the road.
Lol
No car currently, in London. May buy a Cayman S. Dream would be Aventador.
No IMS bearing issue I hope...
Caymans and 911s... The rivalry!
Current: Santander Cycle Dream: My own two legs.
I hope people know what I'm getting at.
You want to run to work but lack the physical fitness?
Dream: 991.2 911 Turbo S
Current Car: Tesla Model S Dream Car: This same car when it's been upgraded to be self-driving
Check Comma.ai.
Maybe Geohotz can hack Model S with a kit instead of trying to butt heads with DOT on his DIY Honda kit.
Model S is amazing. Once they get Tesla Network up and running its gonna be insane
I absolutely love this car. It's by far the best car I've driven (and that I can afford). The stock might be overpriced, but anyone who doubts that EVs are the future clearly hasn't driven a Tesla.
Out of curiosity, did you test drive any other non-electric cars?
I recently had a MB E350 for a long weekend and I would argue that some Audi and BMW around the same price tag as a Model S are more comfortable. Why did you eventually decide to buy a Tesla?
Current: '14 mustang gt in manual Don't really have a dream car but hoping to hold onto the mustang for a few years after it's paid off
Current : VW Passat Next : BMW S5
Dream : Mercedes SL
Diesel?
BMW S5 does not exist... there is the BMW M5, BMW 5 series, or perhaps you were thinking Audi S5?
Current = Don't have a car currently Dream = Mercedes Benz AMG S63
Coupé?
The S Coupe has to be one of the sleekest looking cars out rightnow. Big enough so that you aren't cramped up like a Boxster / 911 / SL even, but small enough that you aren't driving a RR Wraith around town.
Don't currently have a car. Not the most important thing in the world to me.
Dream car: 1990 Ferrari Testarossa or a Porsche GT3 RS.
Many things to enjoy in life aside from a metal box! How are you getting around right now? Rail/train/metro?
Ferrari for sure but I don't understand the fascination with the GT3 RS. A few people have mentioned that car by now.
Me neither. I'd rather have a Lotus Elise. Anything that brings the smile on the face is a cool car.
Dream car? Paddle shifting Go-Kart! Doesn't get anymore raw than that and it's pretty practical in terms of actual seat time vs. maintenance cost.
A Porsche is not a Porsche is not a Porsche.
Maybe you're biased by the fact your run-of-the-mill Carrera shares basically the same body?
I think it used to be a bigger draw than it is now. Back in its hay day nothing could compete... then cars like the GTR came about and other dealers figured out how to hit the low to mid 3 second 0-60 speeds.
Current: '04 Toyota Camry Next: 2014 Nissan Maxima Dream: Tesla Model S P100D
Camry has 200,000+ miles and runs like a gem. Eventually, I'd like to hop on the Musk bus and get the top model of the Model S. 2.5 0-60, 315 miles to a charge. Driving 40 miles a day, it'd be nice having a refueling station in the garage.
Camry is the bread and butter of America's auto belt. Word of mouth spreads quick when you actually get to drive your car a lot more than shaking your fists at mechanics while you run around town in a rental waiting for your ride to get fixed.
Current : previously totaled 09 civic I bought for cheap. Next: take the year my civic breaks down, subtract 10 and get another civic. Dream: Island where I don't need a car.
Island where?
Asia or Latin America?
That's a great question!... in my head it always looks like a Latin America/Caribbean island. But that's probably because I've never been to Asia. I imagine some of the pacific islands are pretty incredible. Looks like you've lived in Japan based of your below post... Any suggestions?
The island of Manhattan.
Current 2015 BMW M3, In the garage 2005 G35 Coupe, dream car Ferrari 458 Italia
Another dream for sure 458 in white...
I have a Tesla Model S. Love it, commute to NYC in it. Also bought a Model X recently. The ride, the technology is like nothing else. I'll never go back to ICE cars...
Did you commute by car before getting a Tesla?
Yes, I had a BMW. The Tesla makes the commute much easier. The middle finger ratio is much lower. Enhanced autopilot is awesome.
No car since in NY but my car back home was a 1997 Nissan Sentra, a real work of art.
Dream car: Aston Martin Vanquish if I were driving and the Mercedes-Maybach S600 if I were chauffeured. Super understated and subtle.
Very 007 of you.
Why not the Ferrari from the iconic Bueller movie?
Honestly man, I'd want it as a collector piece but I don't think I'd have the balls to drive it out all the time.
Good choices, nice distinguishing
Do the new Maybachs not have the special M logo anymore?
They do but its only on the rear pillars for the exterior. Its plastered all over the interior though lol
My history of cars is long and interesting:
1988 BMW 325i (E30) 1996 Acura Integra GSR 2004 VW Jetta TDI 1998 Audi A6 Quattro Wagon 2008 Subaru WRX STI (modded and pro-tuned) 2002 Mira Jino (Japanese K-car, super small, super fun to throw into corners) 2008 Nissan Cube (Japan still) 2015 VW Golf TSI (1.8T - current - hate this car!!!) 2002 Porsche 911 (996 - Buying - IMs fixed and bored out to larger displacement)
I'm also considering a Volvo S40 as a beater car for the commute after I ditch the 2015 VW Golf before depreciation and miles driven kills it even more.
Sold everything else except I still have the STI. Couldn't part ways with it after dumping so much time, energy, and money into it. World rally blue and gold BBS wheels.
Cut losses and then reinvest capital into Porsche 911. :)
why 996 over 997?
IMS bearing fixed, custom engine build, know the history of this particular vehicle, and it has a 997 IMS bearing in there with the direct oiling kit. I'm good for a while.
Second Boxster engine in addition to my 08 STI. :) Can't wait to get back to NA. Been boosting for too long and rebuilding the engine is 2x the cost due to supporting parts for the block and turbo! Shit...
Current: Audi S3
Next: May switch to the new s4, not planning on getting anything anytime soon
Dream: 2-door Ferrari 458 Spyder in the blue they did a launch in (can't remember the exact name). 4-door would probably be the M6 Gran Coupe or the upcoming MB E63 S
Current: 2000 Volvo s80. Next: Not sure, depends where I'm living. If in Northeast I would like a newer Audi. Dream: 458. Saw one a few months ago and I nearly fainted.
Dream Cars: Ferrari 458 Spyder in white or red (by far one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen), Lamborghini Countach (love the rocket ship look to the car).
Summary thus far:
WSO members
Currently: Metro-North train..
Dream Car: McLaren 570s and/or Aston Martin Vantage, lets hope I can make this happen
Efficiency is king. When I was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan we took the train everywhere.
Mt.Fuji was 1.5hrs away driving but all other places can easily be reached via train or Shinkansen (bullet train). Japanese are extremely efficient, trains convenient, and cities built around a train-based society vs an automotive one.
Currently: 2010 Camaro
Dream: Mclaren P1 (Actually, F1 but even my dreams have some realism)
+SB on the F1 dream
The F1 has been my #1 supercar since playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2, loved the F1 LM in that orange color.
Current: Jeep Grand Cherokee 75th Anniversary Edition Next: RR Sport Dream: 918, LaFerrari, or F40
Current: Range Rover Sport Dream: Range Rover Autobiography
For a single guy in a big city, a black Range Rover with tinted windows is a sleek look. Since I'm in my 20s, I always get the impression most people think I am more mature for driving this car at my age than what most of my contemporaries drive. Also, nothing looks more classy in a country club parking lot. Eventually, may need the space the larger version offers. Great customization in the autobiography offering obviously.
What club do you belong to?
I love Range Rovers. "My price range is rover" - Nelly
Yes please trade in the sport and get the big boy.. in the south we call that the sorority edition
Also check out the Holland & Holland version
How long have you had your Range Rover? I've heard that their is a lower % of 5+ year-old RR on the road than any other major car brand. Curious to hear your thoughts on their reliability
I have had mine for about 4.5 years now and got it
Anyone looking to buy a classic z car that has been heavily resto-modded DM me.
Widebody, staggered wheels, triple webers, coilovers, suede, custom gauges, shaved body, huge frame rails welded on, upgraded brakes, glasspacks, TONS of carbon fiber (including the dash), AC, push-to-start, LEDs in the headlights/taillights, headers, custom head with street cam, ZERO RUST, custom paint... 5K miles since total restoration, 55k on the body and trans.
Originally a Black Pearl edition, one of only about 700
Asking $43K, will ship
Include pics :) This is a show and tell.

I fixed the links, the bottom pic was from when I was installing the carbs so a bit different now (no rubber gas line running across the radiator, less wiring, ect)
Some people want to travel to different counties, I have a list of cars I want to drive:
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, AF 4C, E39 M5, 997 GT3, Cayman GT4, Carrera GT, P1, McLaren MSO HS, 675LT, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, Aventador SV, Huracan Superleggera, 2nd-gen CTS-V 6MT, Cobalt SS turbo, Ferrari 355, Porsche 918, BMW 1M, Corvette ZR1, Skyline R34, Koenigsegg One:1, Huayra BC, any Zonda.
Tough for me to nail it down to one dream car, but if I had to I'd probably say the Porsche GT4.
Some of those you can easily rent no?
You could definitely rent some of them - Porsche GT3, Aventador SV for sure. Others you could just buy - Cobalt SS is like $6k, E39 M5 ~$20k, etc.
It's the unobtanium cars like the P1, MSO HS, 918, Koenigsegg, and Paganis that you'd be unlikely to touch unless you bought them.
Great choice regarding Porsche GT4 - a very realistic piece to own as well. Probably not going to see a ton of (if any, or rather appreciation) depreciation on it as well.
Absolutely, in fact they've appreciated heavily due to the limited supply and demand - MSRP was around $85 and now they go secondhand for ~$120.
I'm also in love with the 991 GT3 but I really want a manual. If not, GT3 or Huracan SL all day.
Check out the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio--505 HP in a 2.9 L mid-sized sports sedan. Great car that's easy on the eyes.
Saw it in person at an autoshow - didn't get to see the interior though. Was definitely nice looking car but it didn't make me feel like I needed to have it. Maybe after driving, things would be different.
Current: 991.1 Carrera S Obtainable Dream: 458 Italia/Speciale Unobtanium: McLaren F1 LM
What is your current ride and why? 1995 Civic coupe w/ integra engine swap, turbo charged. Why? It's quick, fun, cheap to maintain and I don't have to care about it getting dinged or scratched (no driveway/garage...)
What's your dream car(s)? Red Ferrari 360 Modena Spyder, 6 speed manual. Can't beat the class of a naturally aspirated Ferrari v8 with a gated 6 speed...
Not exactly the same, but I got to take a ride in an F430 when I was younger.... I'll never forget it.
Drive an X3
Dream car is some sort of Aston Martin
I love the Astons, just wish they would do a complete rehaul of the interior. Too outdated for how long the "current" models have been around.
I think of all the high end luxury / performance cars, they have done the best job of creating a truly timeless design. Thoughts, Ebolamonkey Matrick ?
There are a few brands that have managed to come up with a design that seems to last forever. For some reason the ones that come to mind first are all of British heritage: Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Bentley...
Thoughts on MX5 Miata -
A) Guy or chicks who dig cars car for the the track (cool) B) Chick car - Ewww! C) Not my cup of tea, need a Bateman vehicle to prowl the streets!
My choice: A but... Not in the USA and definitely not in Texas or the South when the vehicles next to you can send you straight to hell just with a fender tap. Track only! Even then I'm not too fond of open tops after seeing some rather horrific videos of Miata accidents.
Current: 2007 Infiniti M35 Dream: McLaren P1 or "affordable dream car" is a Porsche 911 Turbo or McLaren 670S
I drive the same old rust bucket i bought 12 years ago during my senior year. why? cause it still works plus I know all the pleasure moans and noise she makes when she is in pain. i'm going to ride this bitch until she dies and then buy another rust bucket. still want to know why? because i love to travel and do it in style, none of that backpacking though hostels shit. I am too old and have gotten used to a certain standard so I would rather spend 15K on a week long five star paradise than drive a BMW. I measure my dick in inches not how many thou my car costs.
