Lazard 1st round interview help
I have an upcoming first round telephone interview with Lazard. I was wondering what kind of questions do they ask.
Any other advice would be appreciated too.
Thanks!

Very basic technicals mixed with simple behaviorals
Have you done the interview before? I was just thinking about challenges Lazard is currently facing. Any ideas?
My first rounder with them this year was extremely technical. I was asked to essentially walk through every step of a bottom up valuation of a company and was peppered with questions about the DCF. Asked me which valuation method I would use, why, and what its potential shortcomings might be. They really got into how I see the company in the future - how would I forecast its addressable market in a foreign country.. How they might finance a project to expand oversees.. Why the margins would be different in Europe versus the US.. I loved the format - it really allows you to demonstrate creativity and ability to see past the generic answers on interview guides. I have a superday coming up in the next couple of weeks, so I can only imagine this will be equally technical.
If that's the type of attitude you have going into interviews, you're going to do very well. Anyone can answer "walk me through a DCF", but if you can show some creativity, you'll always set yourself apart in a positive way.
Don't forget, get plenty of sleep.

Hi,
I'm going for my first round interview for analyst position at Lazard at the Melbourne office and was wondering if anyone had any idea about the style of interview it is. Technical/behavioural/fit etc? Ive been told its only about 20 minutes so I cant imagine it being too technical, but have read otherwise about interviews in overseas offices, not Australia.
Any information would be great.
Cheers!!
normally first round is mostly fit. Walk me through your resume, why IB, why us, and potentially some basic tech questions (Valuation techniques, walk me through a DCF). Usually the more intense tech is reserved for 2nd round or Superdays.
You may get asked a brain teaser. I've been asked things like "how many gas stations do you think there are in the US" and "how much would you pay to purchase an NYC newsstand."
Full time or summer analyst gig?
summer analyst
I had my superday back in May. First round was 100% technical. Full equations for DCF, know your valuation methods, accounting, etc. Superday was less technical, mostly 50/50.
This was for the NYC office in M&A.
